Roque had a stable government job in Honduras. But when he spoke out against corruption, he became a target. Threats, violence, and official inaction made daily life unsafe even dangerous.
At one point, he was attacked while simply riding his motorcycle. It was a wake-up call: things weren’t going to get better, and staying might cost him his life.
“The country was becoming increasingly dangerous,” Roque recalled. “Corruption was eating away at us. It was no longer even safe to work.” So, for the safety of his children and his own future, he made the painful decision to leave.
Roque’s asylum case wasn’t easy. But with the help of a dedicated legal team who took the time to hear his story and prepare a strong case, he found success.
"Con ustedes encontré apoyo. Me sentí escuchado. No me trataron como un número, sino como una persona".
Roque’s asylum was granted. Now, he has the chance to work legally, pursue permanent residency, and give his children the future they deserve.
Now living in the U.S., Roque is rebuilding with dignity. He’s working, learning English, supporting his family, and looking ahead to becoming a U.S. resident. While he still misses home, he knows he made the right choice.
Roque encourages others in similar situations:
- Don’t give up. The road is long, but it’s worth it.
- Encuentra la ayuda legal correcta, un buen equipo legal lo es todo.
- Be honest. Tell your story and speak your truth.
And to those who may not understand, Roque offers this reminder:
"No estamos aquí para quitarle nada a nadie. Estamos aquí para contribuir, para trabajar, para vivir en paz".
If you or someone you love is facing threats, injustice, or violence you don’t have to go through it alone.
At Tingen Law, we’re committed to listening, supporting, and fighting for families like Roque’s. Your story matters and we’re here to help you write the next chapter.
